 Last Wednesday the CDC released an upbeat piece of epidemiological news: rates of  four common types of nosocomial infections decreased at an impressive pace in 2010, bringing hospitals closer to the nine milestones set in the Department of Health and Human Services’ Action Plan to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections.

The 1st Global Forum on Bacterial Infections concluded last week on 5 October 2011.  The forum outlined the state of the current challenge of increasing antibiotic access to the developing world while limiting an increase in drug resistance.  Immediate and multi-sectoral approaches at the global and domestic level were determined to be the course of action for combatting bacterial infections caused by antibiotic resistance. The New Delhi Call to Action on Preserving the Power of Antibiotics was signed by Hon.
