The Question

Malaria interventions have achieved success in Zanzibar—should donors reallocate their resources to other malaria-endemic countries?

What We Found

Historically, reducing malaria intervention money to a different region immediately after initial success in Zanzibar has led to a resurgence of malaria outbreaks.  In order to continue to control, or even eliminate, malaria, funding must be continued for an extended period of time.

Why It Matters

The funding model used in Zanzibar can be a case study for other sub-Saharan African nations or regions that aim to control or eliminate malaria.
